MY STORY

My story starts before I was an architect, in fact, that's where it almost ended.

In high school I had no idea what I wanted to do.
Some mismatched skills with no direction.
Then someone noticed me and put it together.
Art & Math - I was born for architecture.
So I applied like crazy to every architecture school around.
The problem? I had no idea what I was getting into.
I was rejected by every … single… school …
A depressing start to a career I was “born” for.
I almost quit, for the first time.

Fast forward a year and I was back on the hunt.
This time I got interviews … yay!
The problem?
Turns out some professors see themselves as the gatekeepers of architecture.
So picture it, 19 years old, no experience, no clue what I am doing.
And I am insulted, mocked, and intimidated by an experienced professor.
Again, depressing start to my exciting career.
I almost quit, for the second time.

Fast forward 15 years and I’m now a licensed architect.
From that formative experience I learned 3 fundamental life lessons:

1. Persistence is the key.
The number one way to achieve your dreams is persistence. If you aren’t persistent you will give up. Everyone experiences setbacks, it’s all in how you react to them.

2. Negative people don’t matter.
There are people who like to tear others down. It’s an unfortunate fact of life. Don’t let it affect who you are or the goals you set.

3. Difficulties form character.
Character is a big asset. Let setbacks form your character and you will be better off in the long run.

Today I work as an architect with two main goals:

1. To make the world a better place for my kids.

2. To help other architects be better architects.

Being an architect can be very difficult and often we are pitted against each other, but I want to see a world where architects support each other and learn to be better at what we do.

Let's elevate the AEC industry together!
